Angie and I were discussing, over a bottle of red and then a vodka-cranberry-plum cocktail concoction, the various qualities of men that attract us. We came to the realization that even though we’re both self-assured, confident, and soon-to-be successful women, that we are both drawn to men who can, in some small way, take care of us.

There is something so attractive about a man who takes charge of a situation. Whether it be forcefully pulling you into a kiss, taking care of the check as soon as it arrives, showing you off in front of other men, asserting and affirming his attraction to you, or simply opening your car door, men who take charge demonstrate everything that women are biologically and innately wired to want. This type of man proves himself to be a provider and a man who can stand the test of time.

It’s so simple, but this commercial is actually what started the whole conversation:

The conversation went something like:

Jenn: Okay so this is totally cheesy, but there’s this jewelry commercial that pulls at my emotional heart strings and I don’t know why. (Side note – sappy commercials usually piss me off more than anything, but this one really got to me)

Angie: Yeah. Totally. He hands her the necklace right?

Jenn: Yeah that’s the one.

Angie: I totally get where you’re coming from and it’s not cheesy. He just knows what she wants and gives it to her, and that is an amazing quality in a man that is so hard to find.

Jenn: And the music definitely sets the mood. (The track happens to be an artist by the name of Landon Pigg. The song is called Coffee Shop and it’s available on his myspace page).

And so the conversation continued. Women want a take charge man. Just a little hint to all the married and taken men out there. Make an effort and you’ll definitely get a response.

  • You're so right about this. It's the simple, often overlooked, things like opening the car door that set a "take charge" man apart from the rest. Or even simpler, just listening. It's amazing what you can learn during a conversation if you just pay attention to not only the words said, but also the tone, body langauge and facial expressions that accompany them.
