tyfn thanks for your comment :) I know back when I was at UCLA I certainly avoided the free weights because of the fact that there were athletes in that area. It seems silly now, but I was intimated by their campus status and felt like a fish out of water.

Excellent advice. I workout at a university gym that has a significant number of varsity athletes and is a popular place. I have never seen any guy focus on someone that doesn't look like they belong in the Big Boys area or talk about another member unfavouarably. Seriously, everyone has limited time with class, studying, papers, so people are totally focused on getting their reps done and moving on. Basically the guys bench pressing and doing free weights aren't there to make fun of people, their focus is on staying fit, which won't happen if they spend half their time making other people feel uncomfortable. As it is, working on chest and biceps take at least an hour for a good workout session.

Basically have fun, act confident, and your experience in the big boys section will be favourable.
