I’ve subdivided this 3,000 mile trek back to San Diego into 600 mile per day chunks. Today I traversed through 6 states (New Hampshire, Massachusetts , Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania), made 3 stops for gas and snacks, received 2 citations, and got lost 1 time. Along the way I used Jott to convert my voice into text to send micro-blog posts to twitter, and I used utterz to capture longer audio moments that I wanted to share on this blog and with the utterz community.

Given all my social activity, it was no surprise (but it was pleasant) to finally check into my hotel room and find comments, replies, and tweets from fellow media snackers. I’m having a blast sharing my trip and can’t wait to continue with more updates tomorrow.

Vegas 2007 No. 2 067

My life has become incredibly serious since returning from Vegas. Things have happened that I never expected and all of sudden I find myself crashing my beat up jeep into a new beamer, minus insurance of course (this is just a metaphor, no real car accidents here). I’m paying the bills and my dues and find that the brilliance and meaning that I’ve found through blogging has been temporarily stripped away from me. I know things happen for a reason, but I think it will be about 3 – 6 months before I know what that meaning is.

So here’s to a simpler time. A time when posing on a bench at the monorail station in Vegas was the happiest moment in time. Here’s to reason-free sanity and joy (like I talk about in this post). I’ll get back to me soon enough, but thank god for flickr and the memories I have to lift me up in times of desperation.

Letting go of preconceived notions opens up new opportunities for unimaginably rewarding experiences.

Last night Angie and I, returning via monorail to our hotel, completely let go of social mores and sang very audibly to songs on my iPod. It had to be one of the more hilarious experiences in my life. People were staring. People thought we were drunk and/or crazy. People were a little bit jealous of our spontaneity. See below:

This morning I was reminded of how I use this same methodology when it comes to web strategy, and it works. I throw out preconceived web restrictions to let my brain flow creatively. I let go and let people laugh at me, but in the end I always find some brilliant idea that is new and exciting. Of course the realities and restrictions trickle back in, in life (as with my monorail musical debut) it’s not practical to let loose all the time, but those moments of uninhibited freedom are worth any amount of criticism.

Who knew that Vegas could add value to my already convoluted thought process.
